Information About The Magistrates Court

The Magistrates Court is the first level of the court system in Queensland. There are Magistrates Courts in about 130 different locations in the State. Most criminal and civil cases start in this Court in some way.

Cases are heard by Magistrates, who are the judicial officers that decide these cases, either in a preliminary way or a final way, depending on the type of case. There are no juries in this Court.

If you do not need to go to Court but you need to file documents at the registry, then please follow the registry signs to file those documents. The registry is near the main entry to the courthouse.

The registry is also a place where you can sign documents (for example bail documents) and pick up copies of orders made by the Court. There are rules about what types of documents you can obtain from the registry. If you do not understand the registry processes, the registry staff may be able to assist you.
